Battle report Circle vs Menoth

A narrative description of an introductory match. Enjoy.

League Match 1

Baldur hefted his sword, its weight resting in his hand like the weight of his hand rested at the end of his arm.

He turned and nodded to the Reeves behind him while giving a silent mental command to the WoldWarden and Wold Guardian in front of him. The whole force moved forward, toward the disturbance Baldur could feel through the ground.

Soon two columns of wind came into view. They were visible through the bits of debris caught up in them and, even more obviously to Baldur, the waves of magic that came off them.

Unfortunately he was not the only one to notice them. He could see men and Warjacks closing in from the other side. The Protectorate of Menoth, with the number of prominently displayed menofixes they could be none other.

Baldur sent his warbeasts out in front as he called up spells of protection on the Reeves. This might not be his first choice of a force for a conflict but two stone body guards were plenty and the Reeves couldn’t hurt.

Suddenly Baldur felt a force from one of the priests, nudging one of vortexes towards them. Well if that is the case, Baldur thought to himself before sending a mystic shockwave through the ground. The shockwave caused no visible effect but the vortex lifted off the ground and landed only a meter or so from the priests.

They pushed the vortex back a ways so Baldur repeated the shockwave trick with the other vortex. As the two sides got closer the priests ended up between the two vortexes. A barrier protected some of the Warjacks but not all of them; the hulking leader was protected only by a lesser spell. The priests, some of which were singing, had no such protection. This will be painful for them, Baldur thought to himself.

Almost in answer a spell flashed out towards the Wold Guardian from one of the Warjack’s arc node. The spell had no effect. The priests sent one of the vortexes whirling towards the Wold Guardian to equal effect. In return Baldur slammed the other vortex through the priests. Some were felled but the others continued chanting.

 Baldur now focused on the ground beneath the leading Warjack, causing multiple bursts of stone and earth underneath it. It took some damage but still stood after the attacks. Disappointing but not catastrophic.

The Woldwarden charged the leading Warjack, landing several devastating blows and sending the Warjack slamming into its followers. The Wold Guardian charged the fallen worjacks, finished off the leader and damaging another one.

The Warjacks struggle to stand and counter attack but they were pummelled by the stone warbeasts and slowly finished off.

Meanwhile the vortex that had struck the Wold Guardian was once again moved by the priests. In an amazing feat of willpower born from desperation the priest sent the vortex sailing over the Reeves to land on the other side. One Reeve looked a dizzy but that was all that the attack did. The other vortex continued to whirl around and tare apart the priests.

The warbeasts destroyed two of the remaining Warjacks. The Reeves flanked the battle and rained arrows down on the priests. That left a single Warjack, a chanting priest and the Warcaster who commanded the remains of the group.

The Reeves and warbeasts were in a good position to finish off the remains of the enemy force. Baldur could advance or support as needed, this battle was as good as won.

Suddenly the Warcaster moved towards the Reeves and called down a wave of force that fell from the sky. Baldur’s magic protection rose from the ground to counter it. Suddenly horrified Baldur realized that some of the Reeves had moved beyond his reach. He witnessed an eerie scene as most of the Reeves were stuck down and burned by spells, yet two, standing barely a meter away, we left completely unharmed.

Baldur glared across at the Menoth Warcaster. It was clear that the attack had been made out of spite. The Warcaster had done nothing to save the remains of his force which were even now being flattened by the force of massive stone fists. Instead he had stuck out in some ‘holy’ furry on those least involved in the battle.

Just as quickly as he had attacked however the Warcaster fled the field, leaving his handy work behind. Baldur knew that chasing would most likely be a waste of time, the only ones who would be able to chaise him down effectively were the two remaining Reeves and they would hardly be enough.

Still the battle was won and victory had gone definitively to the Circle.

Achievement League Unlocks

NOTE: A physical copy of this list will be posted at club meetings for ease of use.
Achievement
List Building                                                                                                                                                             

Dealer’s Choice:       Bring two lists and let your opponent choose which one to play against.               

Dusty Models:          Bring a list that includes at least 1 weapon crew unit.                                      

Fear the Tier 1:         Bring a list that is tier 2, but not tier 3.                                                                    

Fear the Tier 2:         Bring a list that is tier 3, but not tier 4.                                                                    

Fear the Tier 3:         Bring a list that is tier 4.                                                                                                 

Fluff Matters:            Bring a list with a narrative or storyline, from the book or personal,and explain it or provide a short story explaining it for the website :                                         

Full Stable 1:             Play at least 3 different warcasters/warlocks during the league.                

Full Stable 2:             Play at least 5 different warcasters/warlocks during the league.                

Full Stable 3:             Play at least 7 different warcasters/warlocks during the league.                

I Travel Alone:          Bring a list that contains no units and at least 5 solos.                                      

It Must Be Genetic:    Play a list where every non-battlegroup model shares an Advantage (Pathfinder, Fearless, etc.)                                                                                             

Beastly Jacked up List:   Bring a list that contains only warjacks/warbeasts.                                           

Not Like the Other:         Bring a list that shares no models with a list you already played in this season of the league.                                                                                                        
Overcommitment:    Play a list that contains 7 or fewer models.                                                          

Questionable Allegiance 1:          Play at least 2 different factions during the league.                         

Questionable Allegiance 2:          Play at least 3 different factions during the league.                         

Questionable Allegiance 3:          Play 5 different factions during the league.                                         

The Kitchen Sink:                 Play a list that includes 50 or more models
The Other Huge Base:         Play a list that contains a battle engine.                                                 

There Can Be Only One:     Play a warcaster/warlock during the league that no one else plays (Different versions of warcasters/warlocks will count and accomplishment will be determined at the end of the league).

Pre-Game                                                                                                                           

Call the Shot:                    At the beginning of the game, secretly indicate a friendly and an enemy model. By the end of the game, destroy the enemy model with an attack made by the friendly model.                    

Champion:      Finish a game in which you nominate a champion warjack/warbeast at the
                          beginning of the game, the champion finishes the game in play, and destroyed more
                          than 5 models.                                                                                                                              

In Character 1:   Play a game dressed as a Warmachine/Hordes character.                                            

Make New Friends:    Play against an opponent you’ve never played before.                                 

Nice Dude Award:    Bring a coffee, treat, or drink for your opponent (and cameraman!).

Terramorphing:      Donate a piece of terrain to the league and play with it in a game.           

Work So You Can Play:   Paint a model and play it in the league. 


 Dice & Chance Rolls                                                                                   
Charmed         Roll all sixes on 3 or more dice.                                  

Cursed:      Roll ones on 3 or more dice.

Double Double:     Roll doubles with both the hit and damage roll for an attack.                      

Long Shot:          Kill an enemy model with an AOE deviation that travels to the 1.                              

Stack the Dice:      Roll five dice for damage.                                                                                            

Stack ‘em Higher:   Roll six dice for damage.                                                              

Survivor:   Make 4 tough rolls in a turn.                                                                                                       

Tempt Fate:      Have your opponent roll your dice when the game hinges on that die roll.

Unfathomable:   roll snake eyes on an otherwise guaranteed hit OR boxcars on an otherwise
                              impossible hit.                                                                                                                       

You Won’t Like Me When I’m Angry: Make a threshold check on a warbeast that has at least 4 fury.  

                                                                                                                                                                    

Power Attacks                                                       
 
Anything You Can Do:   Perform the same power attack as an opponent.                            

Athlete:     Perform a Charge, a Slam, a Trample, a Push, and a Throw (1 or 2 hand) in 1 game
                                                                                 
Bystander:            Kill 1 or more models with collateral damage from one attack.

Excessive Force:       Hit a non-character warrior model with a slam, throw, headbutt, or power
                                   strike from a heavy, gargantuan, or colossal warbeast/warjack.           

Grappler:   Keep an enemy warjack/beast in a Power Attack Weapon/Head Lock for 1 round
 
Hardcore Mugging:         Perform all of the following power attacks on the same enemy model in
                                           a single game: headbutt, slam and throw (one or two handed).

Head Banger:     Knock down an enemy warcaster/warlock with a Headbutt power attack.

Herculean Task:     Slam or Throw a model at least 6 inches.                                                              

Painted Red:     Destroy a model by throwing or slamming it into an obstruction.            

Stampede:   Hit 5 models with a trample                                                                                      

Destroying Models                                                                                          

Boom Stick:                        Kill 2 or more enemy models with a single spray attack.                                 

Bounty Hunter:                 Kill a character model with a warrior model.                                        

Concentrated Fire:          Kill a model with a Combined Ranged attack that includes at least 4 members of a unit.                                                                                                                                                 
Friendly Fire:      Kill one or more of your own models with blast or spray damage while targeting an
                            enemy model.    

Getting Value:   Have at least 5 models in a unit hit and kill a different enemy model in a turn.

Headshot:          Kill a multi-wound trooper with a single ranged attack.                  

Knockout:              Overkill a model by 10 or more damage.                                                               

Monster Flayer:      Kill 2 or more warbeasts in one turn.                                                                      

Hulk Smash!       Do 20 or more damage in a single attack. Yell “Hulk Smash!”

Oh Blast!:                            Kill 3 or more models with blast damage from a single AOE.         

Opportunist:                      Kill an enemy model with a free strike.                                                                 

Poke it With a Stick:        Kill an enemy model with a melee P+S 8 or less melee attack.    

Revenge:                             Kill a warjack/warbeast with a model that was previously damaged by it.              

Robot Slayer:                     Kill 2 or more warjacks in one turn.                                                                         

Shield Bash:                        Kill an enemy model while in Shield Wall formation, or with a L or R attack with a Shield or Buckler.                                                                               

Slaughter 1:                        Kill an entire enemy unit in a turn
Slaughter 2:   Kill all enemy trooper models before the ends of the game against an opponent who
                        brought at least 2 units.                                                                                      

Totally OP:          Kill a 100% health warjack/warbeast with a non-warcaster/warlock, warrior
                            model/unit in a single activation.                                                                          

Unified Strike:                   Kill a model with a Combined Melee attack that includes at least 3
                                           members of a unit.                                                                                                                                                                                   

Assassinations                                                                                                                                                                                                 
It Burns!:       Win a game by having the opposing warcaster/warlock die to the
                        Corrosion or Fire Continuous effect

Mage Hunter:  Assassinate an enemy warcaster/lock without destroying any other opponents
                           models.      

Silver Platter:     Assassinate the enemy warcaster/warlock on your turn without moving any of your
                             models.                                                                                                                     

Taking Credit:   Assassinate the enemy warcaster/warlock with your warcaster/warlock. 
                                                                                                                                                                                             

Turn Based Goals                                                                                   
 
Benched:      Play a game in which at the beginning of each turn you nominate 1 warjack/warbeast,
                      battle engine, solo, OR unit to not activate for that turn. The model/unit chosen must
                      be worth at least 6 points.                                                 

Combined Arms:     Make a magic attack, ranged attack, and melee attack against the same enemy
                                  model in 1 turn.
 
Fearless:     Engage the enemy warcaster/warlock with your own warcaster/warlock but make no
                    attacks against them this turn AND have your caster survive until the following turn

Foot Race:    Have your warcaster/warlock run on turn 2.

Intelligence Gathering:  End an activation of your warcaster/lock in the opponent's DZ
 
Photo Finish:         Fail a charge by being less than 0.5” out of melee range.                                               

Right on Target:    Directly hit an enemy model with a ranged or magic attack after suffering the
                                 target-in-melee penalty                                                                                       

Running Scared:    Force an enemy to flee, or destroy 50% of an Undead unit in 1 turn.

Stopped Short:   Lose a model to a free strike while attempting a charge.                                               

Tide of Battle:   End a unit’s activation with 5 or more models from that unit entirely within the
                            opponent's deployment zone
 
Warbeast Wannabe:      Activate a warjack with 4 or more focus on it.
 
 
Game Long Goals                                                                                           


Acceptable Losses:          Finish a game with your warcaster/warlock as your only model remaining in play.                                                                                                                                                             

Axe to Face:                       Finish a game without your warcaster or warlock having cast ANY spells or animi.                                                                                                                             

Carpenter’s Eye:              Play a game without measuring your control area (Mandatory measurements will be made secretly by Mr Craig).                                                                                     

Cleansing Waters:            Heal or remove 20 or more points of damage from a single model during one game.                                                                                                                       

Cunning Tactician:            Win a game without using your Feat.                                                                                     

Fall of Man:                        Knock down at least 5 different enemy models without using a feat to do so in a single game.                                                                                                                   

Gone Rogue:                     Make 3 back strike attacks in a single game.                                                        

Gun Slinger:                       Win a game without making melee attacks.                                                                        

I’m Not Dead Yet:            Win a game with 1 life remaining on your warcaster/warlock without cutting more than 5 times.

In Character 2:                   Act out the casting of every spell/animi your warcaster/warlock casts during the game for the camera

Insult to Injury:                 Have an enemy model simultaneously suffering at least 2 of the following effect: Blind, Corrosion, Fire, Knockdown, or Stationary.                                               

Master of the Arcane:   Have your warcaster/warlock cast all of their spells (including animi) in a single game.                                                                                                                                                    

Refuge and Respite:       Finish a game with no friendly model suffering any of the following effects: Blind, Corrosion, Fire, Knockdown, or Stationary.                                                         

Sacrificial Mount:             Have your dragoon model dismounted, but end the game with the dismounted model alive.                                                                                                                                     

Safety Net:                         Win a game with your warlock/warcaster within your deployment zone.              

Speed Demon:                  Finish a game in 2 rounds, win or lose.                                                                   

Sword Swinger:                                Win a game without making any ranged attacks.                                                              

Titanic:                                  Lose your gargantuan/colossal before it destroys any models.                   

Wrecking Ball:                    Destroy a building/structure during a game 
 
Post Game                                                                                                                      

Story Time!    Write a piece of original fiction based on your army/battle. Submit it electronically
